This Week I Have Been Mostly….

this week i have been mostly

It’s been both a busy and quiet few weeks. As you can see from my blog posts, I’ve been busy writing content, and I have been working alongside a few brands to bring more to you over the next few months.

I’m trying hard to save money at the moment, so I haven’t really been out and about. I did, however, make a little splurge, and pick up an Amazon Echo during their Prime Day, for around half off.

We use one at work, so I knew I wanted one for my home, and we’ve been using it every day since we received it (it arrived on Same-Day delivery – I love Amazon sometimes!)

We’ve also watched a few movies and TV shows. We’ve just started watching Breaking Bad – only a few episodes in but I’m enjoying it so far. We re-watched The Night Of, which is a fantastic HBO series. There aren’t too many episodes, but they’re riveting.

I also watched a film called Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. It was good whilst we were watching it, but it ended a little abruptly and I couldn’t get on board with the female character. And we finally watched Drive, which again features Ryan Gosling. I can’t get over how much I loved this film. The direction, the music, the acting. So so good. I really must buy it so I can watch it over and over. It was reminiscent of so many things for me – comic book shot framing, Grand Theft Auto, Scarface. I swear I didn’t breathe through the whole of one scene and my hard was thumping in my chest. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of any of those influences.

I’ve also been working on a few creative projects, which may or may not come to fruition. We’ll see, but if they do, I’ll be sure to let you know on here!

I’m also edging ever closer to 1k followers on twitter, and once I do, I’ve planned to hold a giveaway so if that interests you, don’t forget to go and follow me. I’m found at @Shutterbug_Blog.

And I think that’s it for now. Hoping to have a proper life update and news for you soon, so keep ’em peeled!

This Week I Have Been Mostly

This week I have been mostly:

  • Recovering from the Half Marathon! I’ve been totally drained and worn down by hay fever fatigue this week. It’s the worst I’ve ever had and hasn’t been helped by a bad reaction to a new hay fever medication, which I won’t be continuing to take! Hay fever sucks!

  • Being baffled by Amazon’s new #amazonbasket. So you’re on twitter and you see a product you like? You tweet it with that hashtag and it’s added to your basket. Except there is no need for this and the only tweets mentioning it are from Amazon themselves advertising the hashtag. It’s as if they’ve created the need and now are crazily trying to fill it.

  • Noticing more and more how similar Disney’s Frozen and Pink Floyd’s The Wall are. Think about it. A child is effected by an affliction at a young age (disillusionment with war, growing up/powers) and shuts themself away behind a metaphorical/real wall/room. Finally makes it big/escapes and feels like they own their affliction, until they realise this hurts the people around them. At which stage they need to face their fears and their tormentors and overcome the wall/curse. Of course there’s a lot less reindeer in The Wall.
  • Making my new home more cosy. We finally did things like putting up curtains in the living room and buying frames for the walls. We’re awaiting the prints through the post to put in them, so at the moment they’re just empty frames but even now they make our rooms look so much better. I’m excited to carry on making the house our own.
  • Trying out OPI’s new Glitter Off base coat. It promises to allow an easy peel-off removal of glitter polish and dark colours, that are notoriously hard to remove. At first look and sniff it looks like PVA glue….. and it dries like it too….. and the ingredients are basically PVA glue. I used some with my Nails Inc cupcake sprinkles polish. It was okay except since it’s designed to peel off it chipped at the tips very quickly. It didn’t really peel off easily either and my nail beds are only slightly less damaged than they are when I naughtily pick off my polish…… I’ll still use it with heavily glittered polish in the hope that my nail condition will be a little better after peeling.

  • Looking forward to seeing some old friends. I have a couple of visits from friends this week and I haven’t seen either of them in ages. It will be great to show them the new house and catch up!
  • Trying the samples I’ve had from Everything But The Cow and The Collective Dairy in preparation for my blog reviews. I’m a lucky girl to get to try these delicious things so I can let you all know about them! Stay tuned for my reviews.

Struggling to Keep Up!

I’ve been struggling this year at keeping up with my reading challenge – or just reading in general. Things have either gotten in the way or I’m just not enjoying the books I’m reading.

Until two days ago I’d been struggling with a book about the Holocaust. It seems it was a little too heavy to dip in and out so I have decided to spend a little money on some books. I’ve been only reading books I can get on 99p Kindle deals or for less than £2.00, but I realised I’m buying books that don’t really interest or grip me.

Today I had a book delivery (I love Amazon Prime!) of two books I’ve had on my wish list since before they were published in the UK. One is The Death of Bees and the other is The Uninvited. I also downloaded Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, onto my Kindle. She wrote Gone Girl which I read earlier this year, and I figured that if I read something where I’m already familiar with the writer, it might help me to get into the book more easily. It seems to be working and in my first sitting I read 7% of the book. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into something good again!

This week I have two days off in a row (today and tomorrow) and I have decided I need to set aside some time specifically for reading  – and try not to fall asleep instead!

If anyone has any good recommendations for books I should try out next, please do! I’d love to hear what’s out and about 🙂
