This Week I Have Been Mostly….

this week i have been mostly

Last week feslt well and truly Autumnal, but at the same time Christmas is forcing its way into my environment.

We’ve been waking up to frosty cars, and experiencing beautiful sunsets, but at work we’ve been listening to Christmas music, and this weekend we watched the first Christmas film of the season (Krampus!).

Early this week we had some beautiful frosts which were highlighted by clear skies and golden sunrises. I’m lucky to work in a barn conversion surrounded by fields, so we get some epic views of the seasons changing.

The same day’s sunset was something else:

At home things are moving along. We’ve finally taken delivery of our dining table, which means meals are mostly eaten there, whilst we admire the rest of the gorgeous kitchen! It also means I can now host my Share A Meal, which I’ll be talking about again in a blog post soon (but hit the link if you haven’t read the first one yet!).

I’ve finally got a place to put this gorgeous candle I was given last Christmas, and it fits there perfectly!

I’ve also been working on my dressing room/ office space, and pictures are finally going up on the walls.

I don’t know what’s going to go on the other walls yet, but I want to find things organically – things I know will be perfect – so who knows when it’ll be finished. But for now I’m really pleased with this little section of the room.

So, coming into the Christmas season, I’ve already picked up some presents. I’m also looking forward to my office Christmas party, which is right at the start of the month, and then later on in December I’m attending the Blogosphere Christmas Festival, which I’m really excited about.

I’m really eager to decorate our house for its first Christmas, and to see it all lit up AND I’m hoping to meet up with friends and catch up, because it’s been too long! I’m also attending a New Year party (the day before new year’s eve!) which is a party with a difference!

Aside from all of this, I have filmed a new YouTube video (which might be up by the time you read this, so head on over to my channel!) My last video has had over 1.6k views and is going up, so that’s rather nice 🙂

What have you been up to lately – are your decorations up already? How long does it take to get you feeling festive at this time of year? I’d love to know, in the comments!

September Favourites

I’m obviously on a roll with monthly favourites, because here we are!

Not a huge amount to chat about this month, because I was moving for the first part and now we’re settled I can’t afford to buy anything new! So this will be interesting….

Let’s start with some beauty:

Two tubes of foundation

I’d been finding my BalmShelter tinted moisturiser to be slightly too dark (because British Summer) but I didn’t want to mix it with anything that might make it sit more oily on my skin. So I picked up my Naked Skin foundation, which I was finding too matte and slightly too light, and mixed them up. And I’ve been loving the result! I get an increased level of matte higher coverage and it lasts longer. And if I mix it right, the shade match is perfect. Yay for me!

Tube of ColourPop liquid lipstick

Since we’re now into Autumn I thought I’d try out some of my darker shades of liquid lipstick that I hadn’t had the chance to wear properly in the summer. This ColourPop Ultra Satin lip in Calypso is perfect. I like that it’s satin so it’s not too drying on the lips, has really long staying power and is SO comfortable. Here’s what it looks like on:

Off beauty and onto homewares. You should have expected this since I’ve just moved house….

I picked up these white marble bookends from Dunelm. They sell for £25 but I had a voucher to use, so I did! Now, I’m not one of those white marble bloggers, however I needed something heavy for my cookery books and I didn’t fancy bookends that were golden pineapples or brass owls, so I went with these. And they’re perfect. They go really nicely in my new kitchen and I’m very happy!

And lastly, for this month I’ll talk about a new gadget I picked up ahead of my holiday.

Holding a manfrotto tripod

This Manfrotto Pixi mini tripod is amazing. I wanted something little that I could use on a table top, but this has the added benefit of allowing the legs to be folded shut so you’ve got a handle. Invaluable for vlogging, selfies and any other hand-held photography problems. The angle of the thread at the top can be changed as the whole top is on a ball. You push the red Manfrotto logo in and it releases the ball so you can angle the camera how you wish. It’s also the loveliest soft plastic, so it’s very tactile in the hand. I’m a fan!

So that’s it! Have you tried any of these products? I’d love to hear what you thought.

October Favourites

octoberfavourites

Happy November! As you know I decided not to complete an August or September favourites, due to time constraints and also being out of the country, so here’s my latest favourites post – all of things I’ve been enjoying in October!

octfaves

Some of the things I’m going to be talking about this month are items I picked up in America. I’ve done a whole YouTube video about these, so I’ll link that at the end and if you haven’t seen that video yet, then head over and have a look.

I’ll start with a couple of candles. I’ve been really enjoying burning candles now that the evenings have drawn in and it’s so cold already.

oct6

I was given this WoodWick candle for Christmas a couple of years ago (might have been last year, I forget) and I love it. It has a special wick which crackles as it burns and the scent of this one is leather. It’s a lovely smell and the sound of the wick is really comforting – like an open fire. I’m going to have to buy another one soon as I’m really going through it this year!

oct5

The next candle is a seasonal one, so I’ve been picking it up to burn through it. It’s from Bath and Body Works and is called Vampire Blood. This candle has notes of strawberry, jasmine and plum, so it’s quite a fruity scent but isn’t too sweet.

oct1

Makeup next, and I picked up the Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster whilst I was away. This bronzer isn’t too dark, isn’t glittery and is easily built up without looking muddy. I’ve been really enjoying using this as it works well in the colder months when you want a little warmth to the skin, but don’t want to look tanned.

I also bought CoverGirl’s Clump Crusher mascara. On first use I wasn’t too impressed, but the more I’ve used it the more impressed I am. It’s not at all clumpy, it’s easily built and creates volume, definition and holds curl pretty well. I have stubborn eyelashes and one eye’s lashes are sparse, so it’s nice to have a mascara that doesn’t clump no matter how many layers you add and keeps definition. A great day-to-day mascara.

I’ve been using Benefit’s Boi-ing for a while but I thought I’d mention it this month because I’ve been really enjoying the coverage and non cakey under eye coverage it offers, as well as concealing other areas on my face. I actually bought the 01 shade after speaking to a Benefit consultant, but it’s way too light for me. The 02 (pictured) is slightly too dark, but works on top of the colour correctors I use, and doesn’t go grey after a few hours. It’s long-lasting and not too expensive (but could be cheaper!)

oct2

I purchased Essie Mrs Always-Right when I was in the US but you can get it here. I really love the colour, and it’s a nice transition between Summer pinks and darker Winter colours. It’s a yummy dusky Autumnal pink. This bottle doesn’t have the gorgeous thick Essie brush, so I think I’ll be switching the cap over when I finish one of my other Essie shades.

I hadn’t bought anything from Charlotte Tilbury before, but when I saw this lipstick on someone I had to know what it was. Stoned Rose is one of their K.I.S.S.I.N.G range and it’s a gorgeous pink which pulls towards brown. It’s rich, creamy and the colour payoff is really nice. Here’s me wearing it!

img_6672

It’s easy to get either a sheer or deep coverage depending on how you apply it, and I’ve worn it tonnes since I picked it up a few weeks ago. The case of the lipstick is metal, and heavy in the hand, which is lovely. It feels good quality in your hand AND on your lips.

oct3

Lastly I’ll talk about a couple of body care items I’ve been enjoying. This hand cream from Bath and Body Works is Sweet Cinnamon and Pumpkin. It smells exactly how you’d want it to. Pumpkin and sugar – not for you if you’re expecting pumpkin spice, but a lovely fresh, autumnal and comforting smell. The cream itself is light and not too thick, but it’s nourishing.

oct4

I’ve mentioned this body mist before, but I finally was able to pick up the full size and I’ve been using it quite a lot! Coconut Passion from Victoria’s Secret is a light, musky coconut scent which is great to layer over other scents as well as misting it up all on its own. I’ve had lots of compliments when I’ve been wearing this. It’s great for all seasons and I can’t get enough of it!

So that’s this month’s favourites. If you want to see more of the items I picked up when I was in Florida recently, then take a look at my video, below.

Have you been enjoying any of these products this month? Or do you have any new candle recommendations for me? I’d love to pick up some great-smelling 3 wicks if you can recommend any? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

This Week I Have Been Mostly….

this week i have been mostly

What a busy week it’s been! Crazy busy at work, and feeling exhausted and under the weather. It doesn’t help that the weather has been chillier and rainy, and now it’s September so everyone is talking about Autumn!

Still, the Disney holiday planning has continued, and I think we now have everything we need which is exciting. We’re now in the teens in our countdown and it doesn’t seem real – it was over 500 days away when we booked!

Not only this but today G Man and I celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary – pretty cool! So this weekend we are heading to London where Gary has surprised me with a night at the Savoy hotel and some wonderful restaurants to eat at! I can’t wait. And the weather promises to look good for us, so I plan on doing some vlogging! (You follow me on YouTube right?)

So for this trip I realised I don’t have a weekend bag, so it seemed rude not to pick up this adorable cabin luggage I found at the Disney Store!

IMG_6155

I love the Animators Collection, but haven’t ever found anything I’ve wanted to buy. This I *had* to purchase!

I’m really looking forward to this trip, and even though we visit London a lot, it’s going to be really special staying over night, and at such an amazing hotel too!

As I said, people are starting to get all excited for Autumn. Starbucks have launched this year’s Pumpkin Spice Latte. People are posting knitwear blogs. And I have to say I’m feeling it a little too. So I think when I return from Florida I’ll be all ready for crispy leaves and bonfires! But not yet please! I wants me holiday first!

So that was this week! Are you starting to feel ready for autumn? Or do you pine for Summer all year around? I’m really looking forward to amazing weather when we’re away to get Summer out of my system. Not long now!

Bad Things Can Be Good Things

Over the last few days weird things have happened. And they’re the sort of things that would normally upset me or stress me out. One of the things really DID stress me out (losing all the photos [over 1000] on my iPhone after a corrupt backup failed to restore my stuff) But I seem to be dealing with it all quite well and it feels as though all these things have happened for a reason, which is nice, even if they’re all bad things.

Things are slowly progressing with the house purchase and we should be exchanging contracts  imminently. I’m itching to move and can’t wait to be rid of the noise and stress the neighbours cause. I also can’t wait to start decorating, as you will know if you follow me on Pinterest (hit me up if you want to – I’m Erin M)!

I’ve had some fun and games blogging too, since I wrote a really long post and then my computer messed up and lost it all……. I’ve also noticed the font on my WordPress theme is more raggedy than normal….. Very odd.

The weather has been a little milder than I’d have liked, of late. This is mainly because I have bought some new running gear for colder weather and then the weather went back to warm and I can only wear my shorts and vests again. Bring on the cold autumn chill 😀

In other news, I’ve been browsing the search terms that bring people to my blog once again, and there’s some chestnuts. A LOT of people searching Grave Encounters. If anyone can comment and let me know why this is being searched so much all of a sudden, I’d be interested to know – it can’t just be because of Halloween? Someone even stuck the exact url for this blog into Google to locate the post- seems a little backward to me, but each to their own! Some of the more obscure ones include:

  • Al Pacino nails
  • Post menopause bleeding
  • Beyoncé Camel Toe
  • Weekend surprises at home
  • Sex hormone
  • YouTube video on the toilet

If anyone wants to explain those too, then be my guest! I guess no press is bad press, as long as you are finding your way here 😀

That’s it for now, but in the meantime, here’s a photo of baby freaking out over a snowman. You’re welcome.
